and soon we’ll be a year old!

it’s been an emotional couple of days around the store – to think that a YEAR AGO I was still unpacking boxes, building shelves, and nervously waiting to open up the doors!

I thought I’d share a few shots of Collage Collage this time last year, days before opening, getting ready to present my little dream to the world. Okay, I’ve got some birthday party planning to do….

jason mclean

Collage Collage is so happy to be carrying books from our friend Jason Mclean. Jason is an old friend and an amazing artist, who makes many drawings, books, and paintings. I’ve collected a few of his books over the years, and they’re my favorite form of art collecting. We shared a studio for a short time a few years ago, though we were never there at the same time; so I could just watch Jason’s work magically transform and evolve each time I came by to work.

I’m so happy to have the books around, they remind me of different works of his over the years, come by and give them a read, you’ll be glad you did.

CRAFTERNOON round up. That was a hoot.

We had so much fun during July CRAFTERNOONS!

We made hot air balloons, rocket ships, self portraits, AWESOME drawings, macaroni necklaces, mustaches, guitars and filled our sketch books with all kinds of interesting warm up drawings. We were inspired by T&T, Oliver Jeffers, Dallas Clayton’s Awesome Book, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, doddlepuffy, Marc Bouvoutant, Niki de Saint Phalle, and many many more.

Thank you to all who participated! I hope to see you again next year!

doodlepuffy take over!

Last night we celebrated the launch of the doodlepuffy website, and filled the shop with doodlepuffy scupltures, a huge painted installation, and all kinds of items hand made by Devon Gifford. I am so proud to feature these works this month, and to have so many of Devon’s creations hanging out here in the shop.

The kids at Crafternoons this week were totally inspired as they watched Devon install her show. Take a look at their 3-6 year old interpretations of doodlepuffies, and do go to the website! Seriously, go there.

Rocking with the Little Folk

Collage Collage was a part of the Little Folks area at the 33rd Annual Vancouver Folk Fest this past weekend. It was a wonderful, sunny day – we made banjos, guitars, moustaches on a stick and the coolest friendship bracelets. Seeing everyone walking around with their banjos and guitars on straps was pretty great, and we got to listen to some amazing music all day long. Nice work Little Folks!
