report cards.

oh my, we’ve just finished a fall, winter and spring of programming!

We celebrated our last classes with moustaches, macaroni necklaces and an awesome story book. It was pretty great. We learned about Taro Gomi, Brian Wildsmith, Georgia O’Keefe, Salvador Dali, Louise Bourgeoius, Leo Leoni, Eric Carle, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, T&T, Julie Morstad, Lisa Cinar, Aronzo Aranzi, Niki de Saint Phalle, and we made the most amazing art work. Here’s what nearly a years worth of programming has looked like. Everyone here gets an A+, and all the gold stars.

Thank you to the most amazing families who continued on with me from the first few days. You know who you are, and you know that I simply couldn’t do this without you, you are my gold stars. I am full of gratitude.

Remember that there aren’t any drop in classes next week, and we’re back on to summer programming starting July 5th!

Thanks again everyone, that was super fun.

and summer begins…

what a great weekend we had at the Market at Eugene Choo.

Thanks to everyone who came by and made a handsome moustache, or record card for Dad. You kept us very busy out front, (thanks Sara!) and it was so great to see you all wearing your moustaches up and down Main St.

We had lots of fun out back selling books, drinking elderflower cordial, and buying goods from other vendors. I scored a pair of boots from Daughters of Dawn, and a beautiful new scarf from Banquet, and I cannot stop thinking about a beautiful necklace from Solis Jewelery.

Monkeys and MARKET.

I learned to sew from my grandmother, and I learned about fine goods from the folks at Eugene Choo. This weekend I get to honor all that learning with two events.

June 19th from 3-5pm join me in the store for some Sock Monkey making. You could make one for someone for Father’s Day, or just make one for yourself. $30 gets you all the materials you need for one extraordinary monkey. Registration is required, just call me and reserve a spot. 604 569 1929

Sunday June 20th is MARKET at Eugene Choo. All summer long, Eugene Choo will host a series of markets, featuring fine items that include vintage, baked goods and snacks, plants, and all sorts of other treasures. You know you won’t want to miss a single one. Sunday June 20th is the first of the summer, and the rest will take place on SATURDAYS once a month. Best news of all, Collage Collage will be there on the 20th to help kick things off and make awesome Father’s Day crafts out front, and some carefully selected goods for the back. It’s gonna be great, so hurry down and see us.

It’s also CAR FREE DAY, so please walk or bike to Main St!

Skilled Set

Hey! Look at the cover of the West Ender!

That’s our friend Lyndsay Sung, the creative mastermind behind Coco Cupcakes. I’m just going to tell you outright that I am a huge fan of Lyndsay and her work; and that I’m especially proud of her accomplishments with her business lately. What you all don’t know is that Lyndsay and I had coffee together years ago and revealed our secret dreams of building businesses of our own, and there was something kind of magical about that moment. When you say it out loud, it really does start to happen; and if you have something you really want to do in this world, you must get your skill set together and go do it.

Nice work my friend.

Also mentioned in the article are my new neighbors, Henry and Lili at Spool of Thread! I’m over the moon about them opening up on the same block as me. Their beautiful store is inspiring, full of light and carries the most wonderful fabrics you’ve ever seen. Best of all they offer classes! With a background in textiles with my art practice you can imagine my delight in seeing more and more people take up sewing again and being inspired by all the services and products that Spool of Thread has to offer. Go see them, make something great, and witness another dream come true here in our rainy city.

Surreal Clocks

We read about Dali and the Surrealists a few weeks ago, and I think we did a great job with our wobbly floppy clocks.

The inspiration was Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” and a wonderful story book called “Dali and The Path of Dreams” by Anna Obiols and illustrated by Subi. Its a wonderful story of a young boy with the most interesting dreams, all that lead down a path that looks a lot like a long black moustache. It’s a wonderful book, and the illustrations do a great job of emulating Dali’s work.

The store carries this story book, as well as a wonderful more in-depth book about Dali for 8 and up, and a beautiful colouring book from Prestel.
