baby bok choy

hello, I’m a baby bok choy.

I’m made by Devon Gifford, a local artist who also makes small soft sculptures called doodlepuffies. Baby Bok Choys come in 2 styles, with crunchy plastic in their leaves and without. They are so cute you’ll wanna eat them. But don’t, okay? Just love them.

Kumon books ARRIVE!

Yeah! I love these books.

Kumon began in Japan 50 years ago when parent and teacher named Toru Kumon wanted to find a way to help his son do better at school. He created little assignments that would take no more than 20 minutes a day, and long story short, a education program was born.

They’re colourful, bright, and a wonderful opportunity to make something with your child that will improve their drawing, cutting, pasting and folding skills. And they’re just so nice to look at.

Come in and see! I might just have to make a few of the projects myself.

Louise Bourgeois for the 6-8 year olds..

My 6-8 year old class learned a little about Louise Bourgeois this week.

We looked at her works, and I used one of my favorite resources, “13 Women Artists Children Should Know” published by Prestel. One of the driving forces for me in opening this shop was to be able to teach all kinds of kids about all kinds of artists.

Bourgeois is just someone we could all could learn about. While there’s a fair amount of subject matter that is a little more complex for the average 6 year old, I can’t tell you how exciting it is to tell a group of kids about this amazing woman, making work into her 90′s, making big, enormous gigantic work. She tells us that her emotions are inappropriate for her size, and thus transfers these emotions, this energy into sculptures. Needless to say, I enjoy sharing this idea with my students.

Here are our spiders, and some books – the photo includes some Frida Kahlo titles as well, and just off to the side there is Althea Thauberger‘s Songstress project produced by ArtSpeak. Collage Collage really likes the lady artists, and really likes featuring their works. A lot.

OKIDO and UPPERCASE 5 are here!

what else can I tell you?

Uppercase is a beautiful CANADIAN magazine, and comes to us from Calgary.

OKIDO is from the UK, and I’ve got back issues AND the newest issue all about Blood.

Limited quantities available. Come in and see for yourself.

DIY night at the MOV

Collage Collage participated in the Museum of Vancouver’s DIY night on Friday. It was a pretty great gathering of fine art and crafters from all over the city.

We hosted a table of things to sell, and a drawing table loaded with Micah Lexier colouring books published by Artspeak Gallery.

Don’t worry if you missed all the fun, we still have the Lexier colouring books for sale in the shop.
